New Workshop
We quickly outgrew our previous space with all the equipment and supplies we needed. It can also be rather challenging to keep cats out of leather scraps and curing resin crystals; we found poor little Yeti with half a foot of leather cord down his throat one day (he was fine thankfully). There is also a constant battle we wage against dust. So we decided to fully build out a dedicated workshop for making our magical artifacts.
We started with nothing except a miter saw sitting on the ground and a drill. We somehow managed to cram enough 2x4s in a small FRS car to build the essentials; pro tip: with the passenger seat down our coupe can fit about 10, 8ft 2x4s. We quickly built tables for the tools so we could build things faster, and followed up with some simple shelves to keep supplies out of the way. It definitely felt like playing IRL Minecraft. We wrapped it up with some simple pegboard and additional working tables, and added custom LED strip lighting for that cozy wizard vibe. The resulting 8x10 space allows us to sand, drill, cure resin, stud leather, cut and polish stones, solder electronics, cut wood, paint, shape molds, cast enchantment spells, perform summoning rituals, and … whatever else our artifacts require.
Could we have bought shelves and tables off Amazon? Absolutely. But we found that the process helped build up our skill-set, was cheaper, produced equipment that precisely fit the space, and is extremely sturdy (we might have overdone it on the number of woodscrews used).
